Physician Expertise at the Intersection of Health, Function, and Work

 Independent Medical Opinions Grounded in Clinical and Occupational Medicine

Disability Medical Opinions is a physician-led service of David Medical Services, PLLC, providing independent medical evaluations for workplace accommodations, disability benefits, and military matters.

Our work centers on an important medical question:

How does a medical condition affect a person's ability to work, function, or perform required duties?

This question lies at the heart of occupational medicine and guides our evidence-based approach to medical evaluations.

Meet the Physician

Dr. Patricia David is the founder and managing physician of David Medical Services, PLLC. Her professional background spans clinical medicine, occupational and environmental health, medical quality, and patient safety leadership.

She earned her medical degree from The Ohio State University and completed residency training in Internal Medicine, followed by additional advanced subspecialty training in Occupational & Environmental Medicine. She also holds a Master of Science in Public Health from the University of South Florida.

Dr. David has held senior medical leadership positions involving healthcare quality, patient safety, and clinical performance review. She holds an active, unrestricted Washington State medical license. Her combined training and experience provide the foundation for our independent, evidence-based medical opinions.

Medical evidence is strongest when diagnosis, function, and work demands are considered together.

Why Occupational Medicine Matters

A medical diagnosis does not necessarily establish how a condition affects an individual's ability to work or perform required duties.

Occupational and Environmental Medicine is the medical specialty that examines the relationship between health, functional capacity, and occupational demands. This perspective helps distinguish medical diagnoses from functional limitations and supports objective assessments of work capacity, accommodation needs, and fitness for duty.  These principles also inform retrospective evaluations of military medical and fitness determinations.

A meaningful occupational medical evaluation may require an understanding of:

  • The nature and severity of the medical condition;
  • Treatment and response to treatment;
  • Physical, cognitive, or psychological limitations;
  • Prognosis and expected duration;
  • Essential job duties;
  • Workplace exposures or environmental demands;
  • Attendance, endurance, and reliability;
  • Safety-sensitive responsibilities; and
  • Whether medical limitations are compatible with continued work or service.

This framework is especially useful in disability matters because the most important question is often not simply what condition a person has, but what that condition means functionally.

Our independent medical opinions draw on the four complementary areas of Dr. David's professional training and experience, outlined below.

Our Approach to Medical Evaluations

Every medical opinion begins with the specific question that needs to be answered.

Our evaluations are based on physician review of relevant medical records, clinical history, functional evidence, and applicable medical literature when appropriate. We focus on identifying what the available medical evidence establishes, what remains uncertain, and whether a clinically defensible conclusion can be reached.

Our role is to provide independent medical analysis—not legal representation, claims advocacy, or eligibility determinations. We do not act as attorneys, disability representatives, or claims adjudicators. Final administrative and legal decisions remain with the appropriate employer, agency, board, or adjudicating authority.

Physician Independence & Professional Integrity

An independent medical opinion must reflect the physician's professional judgment, regardless of the outcome being sought.

Payment for an evaluation compensates the physician's time, expertise, and medical analysis. It does not purchase a predetermined conclusion or guarantee a favorable decision.

When the available evidence supports a requested medical opinion, we explain the clinical reasoning underlying that conclusion. When the evidence is insufficient, uncertain, or does not support the proposed conclusion, we communicate those findings as well.

Our commitment is to provide thoughtful, objective, and medically defensible opinions grounded in clinical evidence and professional integrity.

VA Nexus Letters

Our VA nexus letter services are provided through NexusLetterMD.com, a companion website operated by David Medical Services, PLLC. This separate service focuses on physician-authored medical nexus opinions for Veterans pursuing VA disability claims.
